Where Your Money Goes

Our Aim

The Chilunga Cultural Tourism program is run by Chilunga Nature Conservators, a registered NGO. Our aim is to use the conserved environment and cultural values as important tourist attractions in the area. The local people in the Uluguru Mountains are directly involved in designing, organizing tours and showing tourists aspects of the life they live. The benefits accrued through these activities are being shared equally by the villagers through supporting village projects as determined by them.

  • 100% of village fund support fees are going to community development
  • 100% of the administration fees are used to operate the day to day office running cost

First Bridge Porject

Recently we worked with the local community to build a new bridge using the Village Fund support fees from our tours. The old bridge was very unstable. It was dangerous for children walking to the local school, particularly in the rainy season where the water level often went over the bridge.

We organised a meeting of local village leaders to develop a plan for constructing a new bridge.

We used some of the Village Fund money to purchase materials for building a new concrete bridge. The whole community worked together to build the new bridge. The children will now be safer walking to school.
